I am a sucker for quick, exciting romantic suspense books.
I was entertained the entire time and even surprised! Cale and Cassidy were a great match - both of them tough and passionate. Yes, they fell hard and fast (just a matter of days) - not realistic but tons of fun. A great escape during this quarantine time.I am a sucker for quick, exciting romantic suspense books.

My biggest note about this book is that it is LONG. I felt that there were a few places where the book could've been shortened.
The romance was very sweet. Amelia is new to town - divorced, lost custody of her children to her asshole ex, and is trying to repair herself. Mickey is her neighbor who has lived in the town his whole life - divorced, joint custody of his kids, and is a hot contractor/fire fighter.
Not to spoil too much, there is a little of the "enemies to lovers" trope which I am always a fan of to any degree. My biggest note about this book is that it is LONG. I felt that there were a few places where the book could've been shortened.

This was my favorite of the series. I enjoyed Lark immensely (spoiler: even laughing outloud when she escaped by nailing a particular man in the balls and using a taser on his partner.) It was an interesting plot and I thought great chemistry between the Lark and Vaughn. I also enjoy (in the whole series) the interaction between the brothers. This was my favorite of the series. I really enjoyed this book. I thought it was fun and interesting. I did not expect the ending, so that was very cool.
I read the series out of order accidentally (starting at book one and then reading book 5 next) - but that didn't detract from my enjoyment. Having now read the other books as well, they just gave me a better glimpse into this Wilde brothers character/personality/demons.I really enjoyed this book. I thought it was fun and interesting. If you have been reading the books in order - Penelope has has a long saga.
In "Protecting The Future" she was kidnapped/held hostage for months until she was rescued. Then we get glimpses of her throughout the series and how she is handling everything that she went through (spoiler: she is suffering a lot).
In Shelter for Penelope, all of this comes to a head finally. Moose is a very supportive, patient man. Very very patient. Penelope is struggling to figure out who she is after what happened to her. Everyone is respectful of each other in Susan Stoker books (meaning: the main characters often wait to have sexy times). If you have been reading the books in order - Penelope has has a long saga.

I know it says that "each book is a standalone with no cliffhanger endings" - which in my opinion suggests that you don't have to read the other books - but I think reading as many of the books before this one as possible will really help you get the most out of this one. There are a lot of characters who have already had their "story" told - so there's just a lot of background to understanding who everyone is and their love stories.
This is the book where we find out about Penelope who has a fairly long saga throughout the other books up until her actual book - "Shelter for Penelope" - where she deals with all that has happened to her. In this book it is all about her capture/rescue.
If you enjoy Susan Stoker, I imagine you'll get some enjoyment out of this book since but it's not my favorite of what she has written.I know it says that "each book is a standalone with no cliffhanger endings" - which in my opinion suggests that you don't have to read the other books - but I think reading as many of the books before this one as possible will really help you get…

I enjoyed Securing Avery. I haven't read all of the books in order but I was looking forward to this one because I remember reading either the first few chapters at the end of one of her other books or maybe it was in part of the epilogue of a previous book (because Stoker will allude to upcoming plots in the epilogue) and really wanted to see how Avery was rescued from being trapped in a cave. I enjoyed Avery and Rex's romance - she had been through quite the ordeal and he was so supportive. If you are looking for a lot of sexy time - this book is not about that. They hold off on hanky-panky.
If you enjoy military type romances, I imagine you will enjoy books by Susan Stoker because she writes a lot of them. Stoker does have a "format" if you will - so sometimes the books can seem kind of the same - the rescuing, the desire between the main characters, misunderstandings, the team fellowship, etc... With that being said - I've read a lot of them and still enjoy myself.I enjoyed Securing Avery.
