I need some time to fully digest this. Probably more gimmick than genius, but very unique and some parts were quite compelling. With that said, the Sloosha section is really bad.

Multiple Recs! "This book is a unique blend of speculative and historical fiction, spanning some 600 years and building a dazzling collection of narratives." - Hannah M. "A brilliantly original fiction as profound as it is playful, where…

This novel is several gently linked stories across three centuries or there abouts. I've been meaning to read it for 15 years. Like climbing a mountain, from old to recent to future, and then back again Most books with multiple narrators…

Challenging, confusing and thought provoking. The link between the stories was not always clear and parts were difficult to read. I'm still trying to make sense of it.

This is a novel about striving for one's individual good and assuming our agency for goodness despite an ocean of injustice. Humanity will go astray, but it is our duty to set it on the right path? It is a rollercoaster to read, especially…

This was not my cup of tea although it was highly recommended to me. I got the cleverness, but it seemed contrived and working too hard for it. I couldn't relate to or disliked most of the characters, and by the 4th section it became…

Overly complex and fixated on arcane vocabulary of the past, present and future! Supposed linkages among characters and settings is a huge stretch. No joy in fighting your way through 500 pages of this confounding and often perverse set…

Some have likened this to a Matryoshka, a Russian doll-within-a-doll; I would rather suggest a meandering scavenger-hunt, each discovery pointing (cryptically) toward the next stop along a journey that encompasses five centuries or so but…

" It's a nested box of stories, each one a virtuosic performance in an entirely different style from the last. " NPR. There were some story-lines that I connected with better but it is an amazing feat of writing to thread these stories…

Read the book before you see the movie. The Outstanding book flows much better than the Most Excellent movie. (Sidebar: The is another Outstanding book/novel entitled "The Cloud Atlas" by Liam Callanan unrelated to this tale . . . yet a…

This one is just such an absolute pleasure to read. David Mitchell gives each segment its own distinct style/pastiche, and each is masterfully done. He never bashes you over the head with the how the stories intertwine, and it makes those…

I come back to the Cloud Atlas over and over. I saw the movie after reading the book and I recommend that order to everyone. Without the book I would never have understood what was happening in the movie but the movie helped to explain…

Clever, but isn't science fiction supposed to be clever? I'm sorry to say that not one character in this book- not one- speaks like a real human being

This book is a great read and masterfully written. I am in awe of the authors multifaceted writing ability! 🙌🏾🙌🏾 I don’t know if I’ll ever come across anything so creatively written.

At first, I wasn’t sure I was going to like this book. But long after I’d read the last sentence, the story was on my mind – and now I already want to read it again. Mitchell weaves a complex story about life, love, and human progress…
