A beautifully-shot love song to the art of sushi-making. A fascinating documentary about that gives insights about Japanese traditions and ways of thinking. I don't even like eating fish, but I still enjoyed this film thoroughly. Definitely not fast-paced, as someone mentioned earlier, but I was never bored.

This movie is awesome. I am allergic to fish, so I cannot eat it. However I still loved this movie. You get to know Jiro so well by the time it is over you feel connected. I would love to travel to such places but I wonder what I would eat?

I loved this documentary even though I do not love sushi. Simple wisdom about satisfying work and constant learning.

This is a 2011 documentary directed by David Gelb. The film follows Jiro Ono (小野次郎), an 85-year-old sushi master and owner of "Sukiyabashi Jiro (すきやばし次郎)"---a prestigious Michelin three-star restaurant. He is one of the world's greatest sushi chefs. But his sushi shop is a ten-seat sushi-only humble-looking restaurant. He tries to perfect the art of sushi. If you're a sushi-gourmet, this is a must-see to improve your knowledge about sushi and re-discover the fine art of sushi. You would have to wait for three months to sit at his sushi bar. The price starts at 30,000 yen---roughly, 300 Canadian dollars. No customeres have ever regretted to pay that much after eating the exceptionally delicious ensamble of suchi.

This doc made me dream about sushi, too. Some really fascinating bits - especially the fish market.

Recipient of many awards Jiro Ono still strive for perfection and believes there is always room for continuous improvement. For "foodies" it's a visual treat. Reservations at his restaurant must be made one month in advance. Delightful and worth the watch.

http://seattletimes.com/html/pacificnw/2020139211_pacificptaste20.html Go to Shiro's Restaurant in Belltown and see Jiro's disciples at work. Shiro worked with Jiro, came to Seattle and recenlty hired Daisuke Nakazawa. Daisuke was Jiro's chief apprentice and is in the film.

Entertaining documentary of the long life of the owner chef of the 3-star Sushi restaurant according to Michelin. The only gap is the missing women (mothers, wives and workers) of the men in the story. (Also available in Amazon & Netflix streaming)

I have always thought making sushi is pretty straight forward but this film changes my perception. The film is also about an 85-year old sushi chef who continues to make attempts to improve the art of making sushi. You will like this film more if you side with the mentality of a stuborn old man. Otherwise the film can be repetitive and boring at places.
