A glimpse into the reality that is the decay of the once great Motor City. Well written, engaging and most of all heart wrenching.

A really enjoyable read..Charlie's narrative keeps to glued to the pages. The only downside was the small bit where he delves into his family history which I found somewhat jarring.

The cover tells you everything you need to know about this book - the author posing as "working class hero." An excellent read if you're interested in the ego and pretensions of Charlie LeDuff. If you want an analysis of Detroit's slide into ruin, not so much.

Loved this! Read the review by John Flavin featured in The Oregonian Sept. 1

Never mind Cleveland.
What about Hamilton!
It's been on the skids
since 1990, and 25 yr. of bailout
have only made it worse

Reads as pulp fiction sometimes... but unfortunately all too true. The story is a shocking illustration of what greed, hate, and incompetence can really do to a place -- and is, at the same, an odd ode to the tenacity of the American individual.

As Rustwire.com said, "A life changing book". One of the most shocking and thought provoking books I have ever read. Cleveland had better hope it never gets half as bad as what Detroit has come.
