This is one of my favourite novels, I've read it many times, but each time it surprises me with the brilliance of it's plot and writing. I love it!

quite good. The plot twists and had numerous surprises. Valek's characcter changed so much. He was so protective in the beginning, but emotional at the end. He just seems out of character a little bit when he confessed his love and during the events that followed. Still I would recommend it to anyone who loves adventure, fighting, and a bit of romance. I loved her use of words, tqaught me a lot of new vocabulary! Valek and Yelena<3

Very well written for enjoyment purposes. Still very well thought out and structured like a classic, but written more simply so that one could read for the sake of entertainment and not enlightenment. Although some of that is present as well (how you view characters as time progresses). I loved the idea behind the plot as well. The relationships kept me on my toes; not sure if it was dangerous or safe. I was also excited by the idea of the main character as a poison taster. How different! I was apprehensive about her being a murderer and that's why I took so long to pick it up. However, the way the story unfolds it did not become such a difficult concept to deal with. Greatly recommend this book!

I enjoyed this book. It wasn't the same old supernatural story which seems to be so popular. I am certainly going to read the rest of the trilogy

Great trilogy. Once done, I recommend A Woman Worth Ten Coppers by Morgan Howell.

Really liked Yelena’s character and the use of magic in the story. It wasn’t what I had been expecting but an enjoyable read nonetheless. I wish more of the side characters had been developed and that the ‘sins of the past’ were revealed a bit more. Valek felt a little whitewashed in the 2nd half of the story, I would have liked more info to what he had done to secure the Commander’s position and how he views that in light of his own interpretations of the Code. I enjoyed the development of the love story between Yelena and Valek but thought their age difference was a little much, especially since she’s essentially at his mercy for the first few chapters of the book. I’ll be interested to see how the rest of the series turns out. It sounds like I'm hating on the book, but I really liked it and found myself finishing it in less than a day.

I absolutely loved this book! I picked up a huge stack from the library and had to read this one first. Very easy reading, I finished it in 3 days! Also very entertaining and had all the elements of a book that I adore: strong female lead, love, magic and action! Read it! :) There's better reviews on Amazon btw :)

A fun read. I enjoyed the idea of having the main character be a poison taster. Very different.

"Yelena, you've driven me crazy. You've caused me considerable trouble and I've contemplated ending your life twice since I've known you." Valek's warm break in my ear sent a shiver down my spine...
