Fabulous historical fiction taking place in Scotland. Great characters! I occasionally got lost with who reigned where and when, but I loved everything else and really couldn't put it down.

I did not like the characters and the story in a story bit. I had high hopes after reading The Firebird and I was literally disappointed with this one.

If Outlander series was too long and drawn out for you then read this! Great combination of history and fiction. Need a bit of extra google searches to get the full context of the place and time in history but it was worth it. Loved the…

Scottish history from the late 1600's to early 1700'0. Political intrigue and military strategy tangle up with romance. Genetic memory is becoming more mainstream, the author uses that to advantage.

Two romantic love stories told simultaneously. One set during the Scottish Jacobite Rebellion of 1708 and the other in modern day Scotland. The conclusion was predictable, but a very good read for lovers of the Outlander series.

First book I've read by this author and I wasn't sure whether or not I would like it. It was a very pleasant surprise though. Two women telling a compelling story 300 years apart against the amazing back drop of Scotland during a time of…

I didn’t finish it, although I read 42%. I just couldn’t bear the “psychic memory” plot line, and the way the book is written- the story of an author writing a book. The story of the author, Carrie, is more than the historical novel…

Atmospheric, absorbing, informative and romantic. Susanna Kearsley is a talented writer who manages to tell the stories of two remarkable women from very different time periods and backgrounds - and inform her readers about important…

This was a good read which is a bit meta with a writer writing a story about the Uprising of '08, which you read about in the novel....anyway, I liked the dual stories, and it was light but also engaging. Just the right sort of cozy read…

Got tired of the story line. Just skimmed most of the book. Very slow moving.

The story is just another historical romance with an unbelievable plot line that the current people mirror the lives of those in the 1700-1800's. Balderdash!

If you don’t want to visit Scotland now, you will after reading this book. Bestselling author, Carrie McClelland has come to Scotland to do some background research for a book she’s writing about James Stewart and his supporters who are…

Having read (and adored) "Outlander," I was excited to see that this book has to do with the Jacobite Rebellion. I'm a little obsessed with this piece of history, because of the way Gabaldon made it so human. I was surprised to learn that…

It's 1708 and there is a Jacobite invasion in the works that seeks to reclaim the Scottish crown for James Stewart who has been living in exile in France. The invasion fails due to an unknown traitor and the details have since been lost to…

I read about 100 pages and then couldn't take any more silliness. What I didn't notice before checking it out: it's a romance novel. That always leads to stupid behavior by the woman. I suspect that the genre also led to a ridiculous…

As usual, Susanna Kearsley has woven history into a story which grabbed me and has still not let go although it has been several days since I finished. The way the author mirrored the events in Carrie's life with those of Sophia's was…

Great book. Once I started reading it I didn't want to put it down. Kept going back for "one more chapter". Will definitely look for more books from this author.

Let me start by saying I love Susanna Kearsley. And I had heard this book was spectacular. But I was disappointed. This is the story of Carrie, a historic fiction novelist who drawn to Cruden Bay in Scotland and through genetic memory …

Always enjoy her stories. She also writes thrillers as Emma Cole. Every Secret Thing is a good story.

Susanna Kearsley has a very low key style of writing. Although there are many dramatic events, they don't just pop out! Nevertheless, once I started reading this, I couldn't put the book down. I look forward to other Kearsley works.

This is the first book I have read from this author. I loved this book and had trouble putting it down! Her writing style is similar to Kate Morton so check her books out if you liked this one. Can't wait to read another by Kearsley.
