Terrible. She needs to return to the lawyers office. I disliked every character that I came across. it seemed very far fetched that after 8 yrs or so she drops everything to help these miserable ex-step children, to the detriment of her own child and relationship. I gave up after 4 discs. I just didn't care what happened to any of them.

I have listened to other books that Maggi-Meg has narrated and felt she dropped the ball on this one. Sometimes a book that I'm not very invested in can be saved by a good narrator, but not this time.

The basic story is good, but the writing style is cliché-like and the conversations are often predictable. The reader, Maggi-Meg Reed, does well with adult voices, but exaggerates her teenage voices, making them sound overly dramatic and child-like.

I agree with JudithE''s comment. But, I didn't have her patience. I quit after enduring the first CD. The reader is a very good one and she was able to sound like a blubbering, drunken 19 year old for the full length of the 1st CD, (over 1 hour). That was hard enough to continue listening to, but then the story was so slow in moving along that I gave up.

I enjoyed this book and would recommend it. 7 of 10 for me.

I feel mixed about this one. The amount of whining, as read by the narrator, almost had me shutting it off fairly early in the story. I didn't like how unreasonable the husband-to-be was and then how unrealistically he about-faced at the end. Similar things happened with the daughters and the detectives. Reactions felt contrived to build up the suspense. That said, there were moments when I enjoyed listening to the story (even though there were others when I checked to see how many cd's were left to see if I could stand to listen to that many!).

Another great thriller with an everyday mom at the centre. Jill Farrow is a pediatrician, engaged to be married, and proud mom of her 13-year-old precocious swim team leader daughter, Megan. But when her ex-stepdaughter Abby shows up drunk and distraught to tell her that her ex-husband is dead, she finds that she still has unfinished business from that marriage. As we discover, the marriage ended abruptly, with her ex cutting her off from contact with Abby and her sister, Victoria. She finds that she still feels like they are her children and wants to figure out what really happened with her ex's death and what really happened between the two of them. She can't move forward until she figures out what went wrong in this previous relationship.
As she delves deeper into things, she finds that things look suspicious and lead her into danger and threaten her new family.
With twists and turns and thrilling moments, this fast-paced novel takes us on a whirlwind journey of discovery by a woman who learns more about herself as she figures out this mystery.
Scottoline always raises interesting questions, about relationships, about feelings, and about women.
