The third season of the award winning comedy Modern Family is better than ever! Jay, the head of the Pritchett family, is married to his second wife, Gloria, and together they are raising her young son, Manny. Jay has two adult children from a previous marriage – his gay son Mitchell is a lawyer, and lives with his partner Cameron, and their adopted baby daughter, Lily. While Claire, his daughter, is married to Phil Dunphy and they have three children: Haley, Alex and Luke. The three families live in close proximity in a suburban neighborhood in California. Hilarity ensues as the characters go about their daily lives. Throughout the 24 episodes, the extended family faces much drama, including meddling in-laws, frustrating family vacations, holiday stresses and shocking confessions, yet the big bunch continue to love each other relentlessly.
One of the reasons Modern Family draws in viewers is its relevance to our own lives. The producers and directors have ensured that through comedy, the show touches upon many of the issues we may face daily, such as bullying, marital issues, underage drinking, dating, divorce, etc. This has added some depth to the show, and has allowed the audience to really connect with the characters.
This season is particularly interesting as viewers get to watch the kids grow up. Phil Dunphy takes Haley, his eldest daughter, to his alma mater in hopes of her choosing that college. Jay and Gloria become increasingly concerned that their son Manny is growing up too quickly, and Lily, Mitchell and Cameron’s adopted little girl, turns temporarily disobedient. Claire and Phil’s son Luke continues to grow up as a curious boy, and their straight A’s middle child Alex, develops an annoyance for her seemingly ‘dumb’ family.
The writers of Modern Family are only getting better and better, as this season’s dialogue is funnier, wittier and riddled with puns and double-entendres, as witnessed in the classic repartee between the adult couples. The plotlines are definitely more complicated, yet remain easy to follow, as different characters are introduced and we learn more of their pasts. The episodes do not have cliffhangers, but instead each one is rounded off with a solid, happy conclusion that leaves the viewers satisfied.
If you’re a fan of comedy, need cheering up, or just want a giggle, get comfortable and watch Modern Family’s season 3. Enjoy seeing the cast, children and adults, grow up in this laugh-out-loud season.
