During the US invasion of Grenada - - at the time of the Reagan Administration - - a military advisor or adjutant stationed in the White House's West Wing, recounted how they had lost contact with a SEAL time inbound on the choppy waters off the coast of Grenada. When the Lt. Colonel passed that information on to a political aide, suggesting they had been lost at sea, the aide responded that it was OK, since as it turned out the SEAL team wasn't really needed after all!
While in the military I was once sent on a mission with a high probability of death. The purpose - - unknown to us at the time - - was simply to convince the Soviets that American satellites were incapable of direct downloading of data to earth ground stations [which had been untrue, of course]. Amazingly, none of us were killed, although we could have just as easily all perished!
This movie, based on an actual series of events in the 1960s in South Korea, could have been based on any number of other countries: those in authority will always consider the masses, their minions to their minds, as highly expendable. True family members would never think like that, but Ivy League sociopaths do . . . .

An amazing true story that captures the training of an elite unit to perform a dangerous mission against North Korea's leader. The unit's trainees are tough gang members from South Korea. The government changes its mind and orders the elimination of the unit. I recommend it to anyone that likes historical/military films It is excellent.

Set in 1968 this film is based on a true story of a group of South Korean criminals offered the a second chance in life by training on an undisclosed Island with a special ops group. Their mission is to assassinate the President of South Korea. Its an interesting story and one I wasn't familiar with. Great performances and action sequences throughout the film. Its a little long in part but it is worth wading through.

Perhaps the single greatest product of Asian cinema, and I don't make that statement lightly. 5/5
