Hired by ForbesTraveler.com to review some of the most luxurious accommodations on Earth, and then inspired by a chance encounter in Dubai with the impoverished workers whose backbreaking jobs create such opulence, Bob Harris had an epiphany: He would turn his own good fortune into an effort to make lives like theirs better. Bob found his way to Kiva.org, the leading portal through which individuals make microloans all over the world: for as little as $25-50, businesses are financed and people are uplifted. Astonishingly, the repayment rate was nearly 99%, so he re-loaned the money to others over and over again. After making hundreds of microloans online, Bob wanted to see the results first-hand, and in The International Bank of Bob he travels from Peru and Bosnia to Rwanda and Cambodia, introducing us to some of the most inspiring and enterprising people we've ever met, while illuminating day-to-day life-political and emotional-in much of the world that Americans never see. Told with humor and compassion, The International Bank of Bob brings the world to our doorstep, and makes clear that each of us can, actually, make it better.

Give love, give respect, give hope, but loan money. This book shows the amazing power of the small business loan from the heart of Rwanda to downtown Detroit, Michigan. Entrepreneurs can save the world if you'll just loan them $25. That's right a LOAN!!

This is such a good book - lots to enjoy here, also lots to think about, and a proven way to act if you're so inclined. Amazing how just a $25 loan can make such a difference in the world, and in such a positive, human way. Love that this way of helping is directed by those who need the help. What could be better? And Dutch_Girl (below) makes great comments about the content, too. Who knew a book about micro-finance could make such great reading?!

This book is an amazing blend of history, current events, inspiration, and laughs. The reader travels around the world with Bob, meeting lenders and borrowers. I learned so much about micro-finance. It's a balanced picture, including dangers as well as positive impacts. And it reads like a novel. Bonus!

Slow start, but really grabs you. It is about the world. It is about finance. It is about people.

This book was easy to read and also thrilling and fascinating. I had read Half the Sky and wanted to learn more about microfinance -- and this book covers it well. I want to open the International Bank of Martha soon!

I highly recommend this book. An inspiring story of how little it can take to make a big difference in the lives of people around the world. I had heard of micro finance previously but knew very little of what it actually really meant. The book explains micro finance (presenting both pros and cons albeit not in overwhelming detail) and illustrates the impact through the lives and activities of the borrowers.
