Wow! This is what riveting is all about. The plot is, by turns, poignant, outrageous filled with incredulity.. This is only the third time I've read Peter Lovesey but without a doubt this is the one most spellbinding to date. I got to page three hundred and something and came to what I thought was the end when suddenly the whole story took such an unexpected ninety degree turn before an unbelievable conclusion. I didn't see that coming. At all.

This book turns the table on Peter Diamond and he gets a good view of what it feels like to be the spouse of a victim and a suspect. I liked The Vault better.
