Both an educational and entertaining approach to the subject of constellations. In the case of Scorpius, the author starts with facts on the stars, deep-sky objects, and the zodiac. Scorpius comes from ancient Mesopotamia, but it is the Greek's tale of Orion, Artemis, and the scorpion that most know. To be thorough the author mentions variations of the story as well as tales from other cultures, including an interesting one from Tahiti. Both photographs and illustrations adorn these pages. Photos include images of the stars, as well as relevant historical objects and places. Additional resources can be found in the back. Between the fun facts, an interesting story, tips on finding the constellation, and a manageable size, each volume in this new series is perfect for a wide range of children. This includes both those that prefer non-fiction and fiction. Each constellation's story gets removed from the larger body of a culture's mythology to shine alone in its individual glory.
