As a Beatle, Harrison underwent a bewilderingly compressed early adulthood, buffeted by unprecedented levels of fame and success. After Beatlemania left him unsettled and unfulfilled his life became a quest for deeper meaning which traveled far beyond the parameters of his former band and indeed music itself. This elegant, in-depth biography tracks him assiduously through his many changes and conflicts, from schoolboy guitarist to global superstar, God seeker to independent film-maker, Formula One enthusiast to UNICEF fundraiser, and marks the perennial struggle of a man attempting to walk a spiritual path lined with temptation. Drawing on scores of new interviews with close friends and collaborators, rigorous research and critical insight, George Harrison: Behind The Locked Door is the ultimate account of the motives and varied achievements of an often misunderstood man. It is also an intimate character study, beautifully illustrating the eternal yin and tang of Harrison's nature; the definitive account of a compelling, contradictory life.

Super-solid biography of the most enigmatic of the Beatles. Chock full of great anecdotes and interviews.

Well written and researched biography on the Beatles lead guitarist George Harrison. Be prepared to see George under a microscope and behind the scenes -- the good and the bad. At times, it was tough to read about George's flaws, drug use, and entitlement mentality. What I liked about this book is its honesty. Being a Beatle traumatized George and this book give you great insight into that. I was a kid when the Beatles ruled, so at times it was sad to read how their rise to fame made them all miserable when in my child's eyes they looked so happy go lucky. This books shows George was a complicated guy. He sought enlightenment and a better life yet like so many others fell into the drug scene. I highly recommend this book for all Beatles fans and those curious about George. It was particularly interesting to see how George picked up the pieces and made a new life after the Beatles broke up. I love George differently now having read the book. I certainly sympathize more with him. It was very captivating in the beginning but bogged down towards the end. Still, it's a worthwhile read.

I need to re-read it. I felt it didn't flow as expected.
