He isn't unlovable or overly perfect - he reads very flat and milquetoast. Plus, there is a cacophony of characters, and it feels like they keep adding more and more with each chapter. Then, there is the plot, sub-plot, and not one but two villains. It keeps shifting, ruining the focus for the reader. And I wish I had a "jump to conclusion map" - because our detectives are apparently so shrewd, they're able to just jump to the conclusion for the sake of the investigation. It doesn't feel plausible that these detectives are able to pinpoint the answer to the mystery with such ease. To be honest, I kind of felt like I was reading a Jack The Ripper fanfiction. Eh.
Another satisfying entry in this historical thriller series.
