Simple plot it would seem at first, all about people, slow in the action-adventure aspect, but fairly thorough in the acting with complex dynamics well played, often with intense drama, not always predictable. Bonus: good parenting taught here, considering few major female roles, albeit with strength everywhere we truly need it. Ok, good parenting can come along at most any age. In any case, "The Retrieval" is not meant to, nor does it need to, provide shock n' awe adrenaline pumping action. while it was made in 2013, it provides some beautiful reminders for all of us during the "Black Lives Matter" times, and yet, it seems to be designed to be timelessly purposeful. I have only one complaint - a few times the accents were so thick and/or the speed or volume led me to have difficulty understanding the actual words, but I think I got the overall context and meaning in and for those moments.

I waded through this flick and found it worth the time. Not great, but pretty good.

This is one of those movies that builds slowly but ends with such an impact that I was left thinking about it for days afterward. It's slow, could use sub-titles, but otherwise a good film.

I watched about 25 minutes of this movie then gave up. I was unable to understand what was being said and there was no closed captions.

Reasonably good story, but the dialogue was difficult to follow because the accents were so overdone. Southern black Americans could probably follow it, but it was too much of a distraction for me.

Little gem of a film. The only gripe I have with it is that it doesn't include Close Captions, which WOULD have been helpful on more than one occasion. Having said that, it's well worth watching this spare, introspective film. Dialogue SOUNDS first rate: pity I couldn't get more out of it.

This micro-indie film (Box Office receipts in its first 180 days after release was less than $51k) is the only American film ever to deal with the situation of Fugitive Slave bounty hunters, run-away slaves, freedmen prior to the end of the Civil War (1864). The protagonists (slaves? freedmen just trying to survive? Their status wasn’t clear to me) were told by the bounty hunters that they must trick a target freedman so they could capture him (to sell him or to kill him?). If our protagonists were not successful, they would be tracked down and killed. Sad that Hollywood cannot make films like this with all the money they have to throw around.

If this celluloid would have offered English subtitles to make sure i understand the entire script, maybe i probably would have maybe kind of liked this more. This still doesn't change the fact that i am sick and tired of being sick and tired of this extremely well worn out slavery genre of programs. Why are they still making these slavery programs??????????
