The father is bipolar and the mother know she is the one that has to go out and make the money so her children could have a good education. I loved how the father loved his girls even through his bad habits thee were making it.

It must be very difficult to be raised by a bipolar parent. Things were either terrible or terrific depending on the mood. Mark Ruffalo is such a good actor.

Having lived with someone with bipolar disorder, this movie brought back not so good memories. I empathised with the children who had to constantly live in a chaotic an unpredictable world and I felt their frustration. We could have done without the vulgar language. It was an ok movie.

This was a awesome movie. The actors were fantastic with their roles. This movie was about a man named Cam who is bipolar raising his two daughters by himself while his wife Maggie was going back to school to get her MBA. He also had to face the ups and downs about raising two girls by himself. He tries to work things out with some neighbors however it backfires. Eventually he helps the kids make friends with some of the kids who live in the apartment and tries to invite them to come over so the kids will have friends to play with. At first the girls were embrassed about where they were living and how the kids might treat them when they find out that their father has bi-polar and if the other kids would make fun of them. Unfortunately they didn't. Then his wife tells him she is moving to New York because she found a job there and wanted to take the kids. The man tried to find her a job in Boston then that backfires also. So she moves to New York and then the kids go to a private school and finally have the better life they deserve. This is actually an excellent movie to recommend other movie lovers to watch.

When this hold came it I forgot why I ordered it. The cover does not depict a movie I would want to watch, but I trusted my past self. I'm so glad I watched it! It was great, and the acting was real. A woman of color tries her best to provide for her family, because her "husband" is bipolar and unable to hold a conventional job. A decent portrayal of what families do to make it work. It isn't perfect, but they get by.

Stupid, contrived and preposterous.

If you are put off by the main character's smoking you must remember the year the movie starts. That is how some people were back then. And smoking was allowed everywhere. I thought this movie was cute & funny. I would not want any child to have to live thru this but, it is just a movie.

Amelia Stuart: [narrating] My father was diagnosed manic depressive in 1967. He'd been going around Cambridge in a fake beard calling himself Jesus John Harvard. When he got better, he started working in public television in Boston. He met my mother there. He walked up and took her picture. On their first date, he took her on a driving tour of New England and told her all about his nervous breakdowns. She didn't care. She said it was a crazy time. Half the people they knew were going bananas. So they got married and they had me... and then my sister. We were happy. I know there is more to it than that. There always is.
