My rating is not based on diminishing the gravity of the story, but is a reaction to missing much of the who, what, when, why, where, & how in this docudrama. "Sex Crimes & the Vatican" is a 2006 documentary that clearly demonstrates the full extent of the abuse &, in particular, explains why the church created a now infamous document in 1962 entitled, "Crimen Sollicitationis." This drama is revealing in its own way, but honestly, doing investigative journalism in real-time to create a film about the story is not that entertaining or educational. If anything this film confirms the "bias" of atheists, as they tend to use facts & evidence to support truth claims, rather than blind faith; many of the faithful choose to remain blind through cognitive dissonance & wilful blindness.

Expose of the Roman Catholic Church and their role in protecting priests who molested children. The problem was so wide spread, and billions of dollars spent as "hush"money to victims. Many of the accused were repeat offenders. A story that needed to be told.

Beautifully made film that manages to be utterly engrossing despite being mostly scenes of people sitting and talking or taking phone calls.

Rated 10/10. A well put together movie that definitely deserved an award. Recommended for those that like investigative journalism stories. If you liked 'All the President's Men', you'll like this one.

I wasn't sure if I would like this movie or not, but I am so glad that I watched it. The cast was superb and the acting was very good. It moved at a fast pace and was interesting, although disturbing. It was a very good story that needed to be told and I was fascinated at all the steps and investigating it took for the team to come up with the evidence needed to publish a story that couldn't be buried by the Cardinal. I don't think I've ever given 5 stars before, but felt like this one definitely deserved it.

Excellent movie. Well acted and directed. An exacting indictment against the Boston archdiocese of the Catholic church and how they protected known pedophiles within their clergy.

Well-told story of systematic corruption and contempt for children in the Catholic Church and in the establishment, fantastic actors, interesting, realist settings.

This made for television movie would be a good film to watch in tandem with Amy berg's chilling documentary "Deliver Us From Evil". What shocks is not so much the individual priests like Oliver O'Grady who could use their positions of trust 24/7 to groom vulnerable children for their depraved pleasure; it is the way in which the hierarchy of the Catholic church had no qualms about hiring slick lawyers to protect them from expensive lawsuits while reassigning pederast priests to new parishes to re-offend again and again. If Catholics truly believe in the power of prayer, why are priests not praying to God to end this abuse? and why isn't God listening? Any organized religion that cannot cleanse itself of systemic corruption at its highest echelons is fatally flawed.

I had put off seeing this flick because I'm Catholic and I'm tired of hearing about pedophile priests. But I buckled down and saw it and it was worth it. Great cast, tastefully done, and makes you wonder where good and truthful journalism is today. In our age of sound bites, I doubt that any of the big newspapers give a group of reporters months to dig up a big story anymore. Worth the watch.

This is an incredible film. Evenly paced but shocking and exciting, this must see movie gives you an idea about how tenacious and relentless good investigative journalist are. The amount of work and effort that went into uncovering this scandal is incredible. This is an important film and the story of the scandal needs to be told, but so too, the story of the journalists. Amazing!

The statistics of 6% is higher than but no less appalling than the 4% estimate in a 2004 report by the John Jay College of Criminal Justice, commissioned by the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, based on surveys completed by the Roman Catholic dioceses in the United States:
http://www.americancatholic.org/news/clergysexabuse/johnjaycns.asp

Richard (Over the phone:) No, not really, Robby. Sounds low to me. My estimates suggest six percent act out sexually with minors.
Robby: Uh, six percent of what?
Richard: Six percent of all Priests.
Robby: How many Priests do we have in Boston?
Mike: About 1,500. One percent is 15. Six percent is... 90.
Robby: Wait. Nine ... ninety Priests? Is that possible?
Richard: From a metric standpoint, yes. That would certainly be in line with my findings

Tons of memorable quotes at IMDb:

Marty Baron: Sometimes it's easy to forget that we spend most of our time stumbling around the dark. Suddenly, a light gets turned on and there's a fair share of blame to go around. I can't speak to what happened before I arrived, but all of you have done some very good reporting here. Reporting that I believe is going to have an immediate and considerable impact on our readers. For me, this kind of story is why we do this.

Mitchell Garabedian: If it takes a village to raise a child, it takes a village to abuse one.
