I hadn't known about this tree before. I appreciate the information in the afterword and will make a point to visit one of her saplings if I travel near one. I thought it was especially poignant when the tree wonders why so many had tried to save her but who tried to save the girl?
The story of Anne Frank's chestnut tree, illustrated in soft sepia by one of my favorite illustrators - Peter McCarty. This book is a beautiful example of a picture book biography.
Beautifully illustrated and very powerful. As a retelling of Anne Frank's story you'd definitely need to know a bit more from her diary, but as a simple story of a tree's view of war it is extremely well done.
