What happens if both the president and vice-president-elect die before taking the oath of office? The answer is far from certain--in fact, what follows would be nothing short of total political chaos. Shot down over Siberia, ex-Justice Department agent Cotton Malone is forced into a fight for survival against Aleksandr Zorin, a man whose loyalty to the former Soviet Union has festered for decades into an intense hatred of the United States. Before escaping, Malone learns that Zorin and another ex-KGB officer, this one a sleeper still embedded in the West, are headed overseas to Washington D.C. Inauguration Day--noon on January 20th--is only hours away.

Good overall and I like the Cotton Malone stories, however, Berry gets too wordy on details, as the plot progressess, and I found myself skipping paragraphs.

It took a time to get into but in the middle of the book : it caught your interest. A great spy thriller. suspenseful, at the end. You were scared that Malone would not live through it. He was rescue by his lover. I hope to read the next one.

Steve Berry does it again with another installment in the Cotton Malone series. Berry once again does an outstanding job mixing facts and action to keep you reading and not wanting to put the book down. If you are a fan of historical fiction and thrillers, a definite read.

Long time Berry fan, he never has disappointed. Has the ability to sprinkle history and make it palatable. A page turner.

Another great Steve Berry read! This one has to do with events that took place during the 1980's Cold War era. Just fascinating to learn little tidbits of history no one seems to know about! And what a thought-provoking exercise in his analysis of the 20th amendment and other statutes concerning contingency plans if a President or President-elect cannot fulfill the duties of the office.

Berry at his best. Fast-paced this book kept my attention riveted to the end.
