The album SO (from which "Big Time", "Sledgehammer", "Red Rain", "Don't Give Up" come from for this compilation) put Peter Gabriel on the US charts in the 1980s. As a teenager I went backwards in his catalog from there and found a rich, unique and thoughtful artist. This collection is a good introduction to his "hits" from across his solo career.
If you like the music of British rocker, Peter Gabriel, then Shaking The Tree is an excellent way to get yourself re-acquainted with his tunes from the early days of his solo career (following his departure from Genesis in 1975).
Shaking The Tree covers Gabriel's song-writing career from the years between 1977 to 1990. The 16 tracks in this compilation ignore chronology. As well, some of the songs have been remixed and edited in order to fit more uniformly into the CD's playing time.
A multi-music-award winner, singer/songwriter, Peter Gabriel (born 1950) is, without a doubt, a man of many talents (as well as a human rights activist) who has often been named one of the 100 most influential music-makers of his generation.
Three of my favourite Gabriel tunes in this collection are - Solsbury Hill, Red Rain and Shock The Monkey.
