An interesting look at the budding romantic relationship of two eccentric boys against the backdrop of the anniversary of 9/11 and the Belgate 2002 shootings. The premise is certainly interesting, and the writing is engaging up to a certain point, at which the style gets repetitive and the story flounders, not knowing where to go. While the relationship and romance is unconventionally approached, the novel's anti-climatic ending leaves the impression that this wasn't as thought out as it should have been.

I really wanted to like this, but it just didn't grab me. 97 pages in I just started skimming to the anti-climactic end. While everything, including the 9/11 attacks, the sniper shootings, the missing animals, and Todd's job at a suicide hotline, all seemed like they were supposed to mean something, I didn't feel like they actually meant anything except something to talk about for the characters.
There was real potential here, but it was missed.

It was such an odd book but it was amazing! I loved the alternating pov and the honesty and uniqueness of the characters. I would recommend it to everyone.

I didn't think, from the description, it'd be such a great book. The author writes so earnestly and it's funny yet heartbreaking at the same time. Beautiful. Craig and Lio make me so jealous!
