Cora Boisdoré refuses to leave New Orleans as Hurricane Katrina approaches; her parents are forced to go without her. The resulting chain of events leaves their marriage in shambles and their daughter catatonic, the victim-- or perpetrator-- of some unknown violent act. Cora's sister Del returns from New York, and attempts to discover what happened to her sister while dealing with the racial history of the city and the trauma of the disaster.
