Lt. Eve Dallas must separate rumors from reality when a woman who traffics in other people's secrets is silenced. The chic Manhattan nightspot Du Vin is not the kind of place Eve Dallas would usually patronize, and it's not the kind of bar where a lot of blood gets spilled. But that's exactly what happens one cold February evening. The mortally wounded woman is Larinda Mars, a self-described "social information reporter," or as most people would call it, a professional gossip. As it turns out, she was keeping the most shocking stories quiet, for profitable use in her side business as a blackmailer. Setting her sights on rich, prominent marks, she'd find out what they most wanted to keep hidden and then bleed them dry. Now someone's done the same to her, literally--with a knife to the brachial artery. Eve didn't like Larinda Mars. But she likes murder even less. To find justice for this victim, she'll have to plunge into the dirty little secrets of all the people Larinda Mars victimized herself. But along the way, she may be exposed to some information she really didn't want to know.

So-so entry in the In Death series, Eve Dallas and her gang pursue the murderer of a victim you will LOVE to hate. Larinda Mars is sliced practically under Eve's nose in a trendy restaurant, owned by Roarke of course, and dies in her arms. Which of HER victims said, "Enough!" Nowhere nearly her best work, mediocre at best.

I have read most of this series. Without a doubt this is one of the most poorly written books in the entire series. In fact, its one of the worst written books I have ever read. It's full of bad writing, bad grammar, and incomprehensible sentences, that had to be read two or three times to understand. Half sentences, and one or two word sentences were common. There were many sentences beginning with "and" , "then", or "or", a good writer's "no-no". Too much gratuitous profanity , especially from Dallas. High schoolers must have written this book. I think Robb/Roberts used ghost writers here, and not very good ones at that. She should be ashamed to put her name on this type of work. Where were the editors at the publisher ? I gave it one star because it is actually one of the better story lines in the series, but its likely the last one I will read.

Very satisfying story. Centers around a minor character we haven't seen since 'Glory In Death' (where CJ Morse was central) and here Larinda Mars, Channel 75's gossip queen, dies literally in Eve's arms. The investigation to find out who did it and why reveals that Larinda was more than she seemed, and while she dealt in secrets she had a few of her own...

I have read all of the books in this series. Everyone of the books in the "In Death" series has been very good. This book is no different. I like the way J D Robb writes the stories in the future and can almost picture living there. While Dallas is in one of Rourke's clubs, a gossip columnist is stabbed and dies right in front of her. Dallas sets out to find out who killed her, and also finds out that she was a horrible person and was blackmailing a lot of people. Dallas and Detective Peabody have their work set out for them. There is always a bit of humor in her books as well as the suspense of finding out who is the culprit. I really enjoyed this book and am looking forward to the next book in this series.
