Each winter when I decide to try yet another Fern Michaels book (telling myself that as so many people love her writing, one of the books have to be good), I ask myself why I wasted my precious reading time once more. But this year I was not just disappointed, I was very upset after reading a single short story from the book. So as not to give away any spoilers, all I'll say here is that with the ever increasing incidents of the kind of crime that occurred in the story, in my opinion, it was absolutely irresponsible of Michaels to insert this into a "feel-good" story, and then not exploring everyone's feelings and fears surrounding the incident. It may have been fine for a full length novel, but not a short story, and definitely NOT a holiday story, when so many families who experienced similar situations, only with devastating outcomes, will likely feel even more trauma if they read this story without having any idea of what is about to occur. Consequently, I have no respect for this author and will never pick up another of her books.
