When an underhanded pharmaceutical company goes to a remote tropical island to steal King Kong for advertising purposes, they get more than they bargained for when the gigantic ape attacks an unsuspecting village and an enormous octopus. Meanwhile, far below the sea, a submarine crew unleashes reptilian terror when they melt a block of ice and release the ferocious Godzilla from his icy lair. When both destructive monsters descend on Tokyo, it's a fight that holds the future of mankind in the balance.

"A giant squid! Hurry!"
I suppose it was inevitable that Japan's most famous monster would fight America's most famous giant ape. If you're a fan of either series, this movie is fun, if pretty silly. Kong is clearly a guy in an ape suit and not a very convincing one at that. Willis O'Brien's stop-motion Kong was much better. As with the first "Godzilla," there was a Japanese version and an English version and it would have been nice if the DVD included both. This was a lighter, more comic entry than the original "Godzilla" and "Kong" and it trivializes both monsters somewhat. There's a bit with a squid that's pretty good and a train scene that is similar to one one in the new, disappointing "Godzilla." There are no special features.

It was O.K for a home TV movie. I was entertained and interesting. But it was NOT worth the long library wait or the price to rent from a Red Box. "I fast forwarded a lot but not all the way.”
