As American's dietary habits change, the Jewish deli has become an endangered species with delis closing every year. This warm documentary isn't just a foodie paean to delis but provides a brief history of the Jewish deli and includes interviews with deli owners from across the United States, including L.A.'s Canter's on Fairfax. It's not just about food, but also the challenges deli owners face in trying to keep a food tradition alive and why they keep doing it.

Travel writers often talk about getting to know other cultures through their food and this documentary touches upon why people who have grown up with Jewish delis retain their affection for the food, just generally not on a daily basis.

This heartwarming documentary is about the history of the delicatessen. Kenny & Ziggy's New York Delicatessen in Houston looks great. You can't beat a mouthwatering hot Reuben or pastrami sandwich. For deli fans, I would rate "Deli Man" at 5.0 stars.

Delightful. Timely also as I had a Houston trip already planned. Because of this documentary I ate at Kenny & Ziggy's Deli plus bought a "Houston We Have a Pickle" t-shirt. To top it off, I met Ziggy Gruber.
