A series of shootings exposes San Francisco to a methodical yet unpredictable killer, and a reluctant woman decides to put her trust in Sergeant Lindsay Boxer. The confidential informant's tip leads Lindsay to disturbing conclusions, including that something has gone horribly wrong inside the police department itself. The hunt for the killer lures Lindsay out of her jurisdiction, and gets inside Lindsay in dangerous ways. She suffers unsettling medical symptoms, and her friends and confidantes in the Women's Murder Club warn Lindsay against taking the crimes too much to heart. With lives at stake, the detective can't help but follow the case into ever more terrifying terrain. A decorated officer, loving wife, devoted mother, and loyal friend, Lindsay's unwavering integrity has never failed her. But now she is confronting a killer who is determined to undermine it all.

I still think of all Patterson's co-author choices, Maxine Paetro is by far his best and The Women's Murder Club is one of the better, least worn out Patterson series although I disliked Women's Murder Club Bookshot #15.5, The Trial and I absolutely hated Bookshot #16.5, The Medical Examiner with the admission that I completely dislike Patterson's Bookshots platform. I think the Bookshots are lazy and badly written.

The 17th Suspect is vintage WMC with close friends, each with their own stories/drama, interesting police work and timely legal cases. Regarding one case in The 17th Suspect there is an obvious question both police and attorneys missed. It is glaring but I'm not given to spoilers. The women's 'get-togethers' tend to be a bit flippant regarding the cases and stories they are involved in and that's getting a bit jarring. I will say the ending came as a bit of a surprise that I believe will probably open a new and interesting chapter for The Women's Murder Club and some supporting characters.

3.5 Stars for a mid-B

The Murder Club offerings are usually pretty entertaining, but I am finding this author to be less and less satisfactory. The various threads jumped around a lot, the characters weren't as fleshed out as I would have liked, and the rush to the wrap up was a little disappointing after slogging through so many pages to get there! Maybe I am outgrowing Patterson; however, there are other authors out there that I read faithfully and they continue to provide challenge and satisfaction, so perhaps Patterson is getting sloppy?

Another very good book in the Women's Murder Club series. I liked this book very much.

I'm a big fan of the Women's Murder Club books, but this one fell short of his usual flair for story telling. It read quickly, as his always do, but didn't really have much depth. Even the villain in this book wasn't really very well developed or interesting.

I think his writing is getting worse, the storyline is just not engaging and the writing is lacking.

Two separate story lines that did not intersect. Professional women breaching standards and not displaying much common sense let alone initiative in doing their jobs.Poor character development and a strange idea of how women connect. Little intelligent investigation of crimes. Really quite surprised that this author is so popular after reading this book.

I love the Women’s Murder Club. The books are quick and easy to read. This was no exception. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Always enjoyed the Club books but very disappointed in this one. Too much courtroom & off track from previous. Hopefully, "18th" will be better.

LOVE reading any James Patterson book. Always look forward to the Murder Club additions but this one fell a little bit short of perfect. Never the less, a great read for under the shade tree!

James Patterson definitely phoned this one in. I don't typically try to solve the crimes while reading his books. I just enjoy the read. However both these crimes were so easy to solve, I had them solved maybe half way through the book. Very predictable. Not his best work.
