This is a terrific biography about a woman scientist living in Germany in the 1600's. Maria Merian changed scientific thinking by recording information about insects and painting intricate images of butterflies, moths and caterpillars. For a shorter, but also wonderful story of her life, read "Summer Birds: The Butterflies of Meria Merian" by Margarita Engle and illustrated by Julie Paschkis.
