This 1976 film adaptation and mystery film is about a couple that is shocked by how cheap their new Victorian home is. That is, until their behaviours begin drastically changing and the man’s aunt even dies. What I did like about this movie is how there were no unnecessary special effects or jump-scares to try and make things seem more scary. But, what I didn’t like is how the actors seemed to be over dramatizing their roles and the movie at times came across as kind of dull and slow-paced. I would rate this movie 2.5/5 stars and recommend it to those who like older horror films. @The_Reviewer of the Hamilton Public Library Teen Review Board

When it comes to the movie-title "Burnt Offerings" - I cannot, for the life of me, figger out what in the name of hell this one's title is referring to at all. I ain't kidding. 'Cause unless I blinked, or fell asleep while watching this particular film, I did not see one, single, solitary "burnt offering" happening anywhere in this dismally poor excuse for a horror movie.

From my point of view - All "Burnt Offerings" had to offer as an "offering" was just a big-big, ridiculous build up to absolutely nothing - Nothing, at all!

Burnt Offerings' less than frightening story concerns a Victorian mansion that actually rejuvenates itself with each death that occurs inside it.

Set in the California countryside - This particular mansion is owned by Arnold and Roz Allerdyce, a creepy brother and sister team, who rent the place to unsuspecting "victims".

Anyway - About all that I have left to say is that when it comes to Burnt Offerings' conclusion - Get ready for the most "predictable" surprise endings that you're ever going to see!

Believe me - "Burnt Offerings" is a real dud.

I saw this movie upon its theatrical release in 1976. I was in seventh grade. It absolutely terrified me, particularly the scenes with the chauffeur played by Anthony James (be sure to watch the interview with Anthony James, also the one with child star Lee Montgomery, which is part of the DVD "Extras"). While there was no terror felt this time around (over 40 years later), there was an immense appreciation for the acting of Bette Davis, Karen Black and Oliver Reed. After seeing BURNT OFFERINGS you'll want to go on an Oliver Reed movie binge. There is also a deeper understanding, having lived in 100-plus-year-old buildings for a good portion of my life, about giving one's entire being up to the old homestead.

Cult horror movie from the 70's- directed by Dan Curtis ( Deep Shadows ) and written by William F. Nolan ( Logan's Run ). Entertaining cast includes Oliver Reed, Bette Davis, Karen Black and Burgess Meredith.

this movie is VERY creepy and suspenseful, with great acting all around. Definitely an un discovered gem on the same par as The Exorcist and The Omen
