This is a ridiculous series about a very old screenwriter (in her 60s but dresses like she's a teenager) with an eight year old daughter. She's a coke addict and has a string of drug dealers coming and going from her home at all hours. One evening while she's working late, she leaves the door wide open for her drug dealer to bring her more coke. Someone else comes in and kidnaps her daughter. Although the police learn of her coke addiction, that she had a drug dealer that evening who was in the house, and of all her other illegal activities she is never arrested for child endangerment. Instead she's catered to and the lead investigating cop falls for her. Totally unbelievable and yet disgusting at the same time. I rented the dvd from the library because the series was put on hiatus so many times because of the lead actress, Kyra Sedgwick's, diva moments. Can't say that I'll ever watch another Kyra Sedgwick movie or series.

Imagine being such a horrible person that when your daughter is kidnapped, and the police ask you who had reason to hurt you, you have to list everyone you work with, your own family, and all the help from the 7-day-a-week housekeeper to your personal assistant. The plot got a little convoluted, but the twists and turns were fun. A bit of a roller coaster and a few too many characters, but worth the effort to keep them straight.

Unpredictable - surprising - suspenseful - great series - well worth the time.
