The film follows Rosa and her husband Nestor, owners of a tiny convenience store who supplement their meager income by selling small amounts of 'ice' (crystal meth). Eventually the couple gets caught and hauled away by police, who are more interested in collecting bribes than eradicating crime. With their parents locked away, it's left to Rosa's children to scrounge together the money to pay off the police and free their parents, by any means necessary.

Quite a disturbing movie with the corruption endemic in developing countries like the Philippines. Poverty and urban squalor smack right into your face. No wonder the current Philippine president has addressed the issue in a very controversial manner and possibly this can a good vehicle for that option he has chosen. I have to see the movie though by installments since I can't stand how blatant corruption has been so ingrained in that society. Still a great movie.

Seems very realistic - about parents running "sari-sari" store in poor section of Manila suburb. They sell "ice" (crystal meth) and are arrested by very corrupt police after being given up by family friend who is informer trying to bargain with the same corrupt police. Most of the drama focuses on the family's attempt to pay off very demanding, heartless corrupt police unit. The Filipino entry for 2016 Oscar Best Foreign Film; Jaclyn Jose won Best Actress at Cannes. Morality tale, detailed look at example of how corrupt police operate.

dvd case says "hauled away by police, who are more interested in collecting bribes than eradicating crime"....but while watching the movie one will notice that the couple who got arrested were the ones who suggested about "fixing" (bribe).....it takes two to tango....
