Almost shockingly, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle succeeds as an inspired, hilarious and creative popcorn movie! I never saw the original, but I doubt it could entertain as well; the update to parody an adventure video game format is gold and gives a lot of material. Above all, the three hilarious actors Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, and Jack Black chew up the screen and all play off-type in an unexpected and intriguing way. Hart as a smart zoologist (after spewing facts: "How did I know that??"), Black as a teenage female (weird I know but it kinda works) and the Rock as a badass who is safety oriented and afraid of any risk. Karen Gillan keeps right up with them as a nerdy girl in a ass-kicking model's body. There is a lot of generic stuff in this movie, such as the bad guy, a lot of anonymous motorcycle fighters to beat up and random cgi animal attacks, but in the format of a video game it fits. The whole movie is near-perfect for summer: a mix of smarts, action and big laughs along with brainless "just go with it" lightness.

My partner and I did not like this as much as the 1995 original with Robin Williams, however it did have it's moments.
The continuity did not flow as well, and felt that the missile armed dirt bikes, did not fit the "Welcome to the Jungle," theme of the story. Dwayne Johnson (Moana: 2016), Kevin Hart (Central Intelligence: 2016), Karen Gillan (Guardians of the Galaxy -1&2) and Jack Black (Kung Fu Panda: 1, 2 & 3) all seemed to fit in this romp, however did not know why they had to change actors, from the original to the "opposites," in the jungle.
The character development was a nice touch, as they became better people. I see that Dwayne Johnson was part executive producer and would have done better with some creative changes, in our opinion, but nice enough adventure story, but the villain could have been portrayed less as an over-the-top comic character.
The extras on this film did not add much to the DVD.

Starts boring, but get more interesting along the way!

a little lame at the beginning...but hang in there--it gets much more fun

I thought this was a fun sequel updated with a modern twist. There are some great learning moments throughout if you look for them including: what is real (that instagram pic of just waking up took a lot of work to get just right), about thinking about other people instead of yourself but I especially appreciated the principle who said, "You only get one life....you get to decide how you're going to spend it." We watched this with the whole family ages 6 and up and we all enjoyed it.

I fully expected to not like this movie, just considering it another reboot. Aside from the, ahem, more 'mature' audience, the movie isn't all that bad. Cleverly written and acted, though I'm not sold on the message of "living in someone else's shoes" when the lesson learned is "nerds suck, sexy/strong people rock". There's a clever reference to Alan Parrish, but don't think too hard about that one!

Bubblegum. Just a bit of fun. Solid enough movie if you're looking for something for the whole family.

I expected to loath this... Reboot I guess? But never could fully hate it. It was much more fun than I expected. Characterizations were fun. It was over the top with solid "video game" action. It just didn't have the heart of the Robin Williams original, but those were some big shoes to fill regardless. Overall, good. Not great.

Many quotes in IMDb already including my favorites when too-pretty Bethany needed help to pee first time as Professor Shelly Oberon. Below are the few more serious quotes on choosing one’s life that are not in IMDb:

We don't have a lot of time in this life, and I personally don't wanna waste it on being, like, a gym teacher.
===
You're all here for a reason. You know what it is. But this is what you should be thinking about: Who you are... in this moment in time, and who you want to be. You get one life. You decide how you're gonna spend it.
===
It's a lot easier to be brave when you have lives to spare. It's a lot harder... when you only have one life.
-We-we always only have one life, man. Okay? That's... That's all we get. That's how it works.
The question is, is how are you gonna live it? Which guy are you gonna decide to be?… Did I just quote our principal?
