Snoke's ring is made out of gold and Obsidian, the Obsidian from catacombs from beneath Vader's Castle on Mustafar. The Grand Inquisitor was burned in an explosion and ... Killed? Or is he back as Snoke?
Anyway, even though the new movies use a lot of themes that they used from the first movies, they're still amazing and my favorites!

Why do I waste my time and money watching this junk? Probably because it's star wars and because I like movie theater popcorn

Rian Johnson ruined my childhood. Never thought I missed M. Night Shyamalan's The Last Airbender but here we are.

Episode 8 is pretty good. Much better than the plot-tired episode 7. In particular the actress playing the Rae character turns in an excellent performance. Lots of special effects, action, and adventure, so no worries there. Solid performances from the other characters for the most part, with the notable exception of Adam Driver ( playing the antagonist Kylo Ren). Mr. Driver's acting skills just aren't up to what's needed for the part. But even that casting flaw isn't enough to distract from the story. Some more screen time for the vintage characters R2D2, C3PO, and Chewbacca would have made for a better movie. Hopefully for episode 9 there'll be less BB-8 and more R2D2. Overall, recommended.

I for one did enjoy this movie. It was visually quite pleasing, and the story was interestingly different, albeit pretty nonsensical if you put too much thought into it. The constant plot reversals and surprises were not too much for me; I really liked the idea of puncturing the classic tropes and doing something different. The transparent feminist strawman characters were noticeable, but not over-the-top IMO, and the climax was very effective. (Plus there are porgs. The entire rest of the movie could have been anything short of nails-on-chalkboard, and I would have watched it anyway just for the porgs.) I definitely think that it's worth seeing at least once, no matter what you've heard, and that if your inclination is to nitpick the story to death, you should really relax and keep an open mind.

Bored. Had a hard time focusing on it.
It's interesting that the authors of the script made a BIG push for diversity in this one. It's also interesting that the story's rebels jumped from disaster to disaster to disaster, losing one battle after another, and getting massively slaughtered in the process. And in the end there was no real victory for them.
-
Quit a contrast to the original Star Wars which made no or little nods toward diversity and ended up blowing up the Death Star and saving the galaxy! With it's largely racially homogeneous main characters.
-
I wonder if the producers were making social commentary with this story about modern American society? Versus the America of a couple of generations ago? That they think that the push for 'diversity' is pretty much a failure. It's possible. Writers have been know to do some funny things.
-
And that Rey character has GOT to go. "Girls can do anything!" - Yup *not*. Totally unrealistic, even in the world of scifi. Puleeeease! Expert sword fighting (the character has never, ever even seen one), flying unfamiliar spaceships in combat, beating up 200 lbs men (she weighs what? Maybe 110lbs?). Quit the symbol of estrogen excellence!

This movie actually makes me think that the Prequels of Star Wars were actually better than these terrible Sequels

Kylo Ren: I'll destroy her. And you. And all of it.

Luke Skywalker: No. Strike me down in anger and I'll always be with you. Just like your father.

Luke Skywalker: Reach out and feel the Force.
(Rey literally reaches out very jerkily)
(Luke pulls out plant and brushes Rey's fingers)
Rey: I think I feel it!

Rey: OUCH!

Again tons of quotes in IMDb already. This one somehow was quoted a bit off:
IMDb:
Rose Tico: We're going to win this war not by fighting what we hate, but saving what we love!

Film:
Rose Tico: I saved you... silly. That's how we're gonna win. Not fighting what we hate ... saving what we love.

Luke Skywalker: [to Rey] What do you know about the force?
Rey: It’s a power that Jedi have that lets them control people and…. make things float.
Luke Skywalker: Impressive. Every word in that sentence was wrong.

Leia Organa: [R2-D2 plays Leia's message] General Kenobi, years ago you served my father during the Clone Wars...

Luke Skywalker: That was a cheap move!

Rey of Jakku finally meets the lost Luke Skywalker, Rebellion hero of the galaxy. Unfortunately, he is sullen, self-pitying, and angry because of his failings and Kylo Ren's betrayal. Rey seeks not only help for the Resistance but also a place for herself in the Force—and ultimately the whole universe. But Luke is stone-cold from being away from love for so long, and it takes days for him to finally agree to help Rey. To his surprise, the orphaned girl is much more than just a scavenger with measly Force powers—she is capable of more power than Kylo Ren. Fearing both the past and the future, Luke refuses to return to the Resistance with Rey.
Meanwhile, the Resistance is struggling to survive in the blackness of outer space. New technology has allowed the First Order to track them through hyperspace. No place is safe. Finn and a technician named Rose have a plan—hack into the lead star destroyer and momentarily turn off the tracking technology. Then the Resistance can lightspeed away before the First Order even realizes what has occurred. Finn and Rose set off on a daring mission to find a master codebreaker who can help them. Finding themselves in a "paradise world" called Canto Bight, circumstances become more difficult than ever.
Will the Resistance prevail? Or will the cruel First Order destroy all peace and love that ever existed in the galaxy? This thrilling adventure is not one you want to miss.

Resistance forces, led by General Leia Organa, flee D'Qar when a First Order fleet arrives. Poe Dameron leads a costly counterattack that destroys a First Order dreadnought, but after the Resistance escapes to hyperspace, the First Order tracks them and attacks the Resistance convoy. Kylo Ren, Leia's son, hesitates to fire on the lead Resistance ship after sensing his mother's presence, but his TIE fighter wingmen destroy the bridge, incapacitating Leia. Disapproving of new leader Vice Admiral Holdo's passive strategy, Poe helps Finn, BB-8, and mechanic Rose Tico embark on a secret mission to disable the tracking device on the lead ship. Meanwhile, Rey arrives on Ahch-To with Chewbacca and R2-D2 aboard the Millennium Falcon to recruit Luke Skywalker to the Resistance. Disillusioned by his failure to train Kylo as a Jedi, and under self-imposed exile from the Force, Luke refuses to help and believes that the Jedi should become extinct. Unbeknownst to Luke, Rey and Kylo can communicate through the Force. As the rival Force users learn about each other, each has future visions of themselves as partners. R2-D2 persuades Luke to train Rey. After Kylo tells Rey what happened between him and Luke that caused him to choose the dark side of the Force, Luke confesses that he momentarily contemplated killing Kylo upon sensing that Supreme Leader Snoke was corrupting him, causing Kylo to destroy Luke's new Jedi Order in retaliation. Convinced that Kylo can be redeemed, Rey leaves Ahch-To to confront Kylo without Luke. Luke prepares to burn the Ahch-To Jedi temple and library, but hesitates. Yoda's ghost appears and destroys the temple by summoning a thunderstorm, and encourages Luke to learn from his failure. Holdo reveals her plan to discreetly evacuate the remaining Resistance members using small transports. Believing her actions cowardly and risky, Poe leads a mutiny. Finn, Rose, and BB-8 travel to the Canto Bight casino and acquire the help of the hacker DJ, who says he can help them disable the tracking device. They infiltrate Snoke's ship, but get captured by Captain Phasma. Meanwhile, Kylo brings Rey to Snoke, who claims that he facilitated the mental connection between her and Kylo as part of a plan to destroy Luke. Ordered to kill Rey, Kylo instead kills Snoke and, with Rey, defeats Snoke's guards. Rey believes that Kylo has returned to the light side of the Force, but he instead invites her to rule the galaxy with him, which she refuses. They use the Force to fight for possession of Anakin Skywalker's lightsaber, which splits in two. Leia recovers and stuns Poe, allowing the evacuation to begin. Holdo remains on the ship to mislead Snoke's fleet as the others flee to an abandoned Rebel Alliance base on Crait. Holdo sacrifices herself by ramming Snoke's fleet at lightspeed; Rey escapes in the chaos, while Kylo declares himself Supreme Leader. BB-8 frees Finn and Rose, who escape after defeating Phasma, and they join survivors on Crait. When the First Order arrives, Poe, Finn, and Rose attack with old speeders. Rey and Chewbacca draw the TIE fighters away with the Falcon, while Rose stops Finn from completing a suicide run against the enemy siege cannon, which penetrates the Resistance fortress. Luke appears and confronts the First Order to enable surviving Resistance members to escape. Kylo orders the First Order's forces to fire on Luke to no effect. He then engages Luke in a lightsaber duel; upon striking Luke, Kylo realizes he has been fighting a Force projection of him. Rey uses the Force to help the Resistance escape on the Falcon. Luke, exhausted, dies peacefully on Ahch-To. His death is sensed by Rey and Leia, but Leia tells surviving rebels that the Resistance has all it needs to rise again. At Canto Bight, one of the children who helped Finn and Rose escape grabs a broom with the Force and gazes into space.
