Well done and provocative enough that it warrants further research into the true story upon which it is based. Christopher Plummer does an excellent job! In light of what happened with the production of the movie it is a good idea to check out the DVD extras to gather the background information behind the making of the movie.

Ridley Scott's 2017 film was ostensibly adapted from the book "Painfully Rich: The Outrageous Fortunes and Misfortunes of the Heirs of J. Paul Getty" by John Pearson. It was also heavily fictionalized in the dishonest way that Alan Parker and Jim Sheridan have manipulated cinema audiences. I think Bernardo Bertolucci's "Tragedy of a Ridiculous Man" was a more honest treatment of this complex topic.

Directed by Ridley Scott in 2017 inspired by the real events, this kidnap-thriller delves into extortion demands of a group of kidnappers from the organized crime Mafia group 'Ndrangheta, who abducted the grandson of John Paul Getty in 1973.
A powerful performance of Christopher Plummer results in an absorbing portrayal of the wealthy yet somewhat miserable loner.
It smartly and clearly depicts a terrifically dexterous and detailed thriller about the Italian mob's 1973 kidnapping.

Well directed film based upon the real events of the 16-yr-old grandson of a wealthy man in 1973, Italy. Real live oil magnet, John Paul Getty (1892-1976) is shown here dealing with his estranged grandson's abduction, like it was a business tax-deductible transaction while the world watched and with his mum trying hard to get his release. J. Paul Getty III died at the age of 54 in 2011.
A strong cast of acting and directed by someone with credible experience, Ridley Scott (Alien: 1979; Blade Runner: 1982; Thelma & Louise: 1991; Gladiator: 2000; The Martian: 2015; Alien Convenant: 2017).

This film is character driven; there is not enough plot. I would rate "All The Money In The World" at only 2.50 stars.

This drama/mystery film stars famous actors such as Charlie Plummer, Michelle Williams, Christopher Plummer, Mark Wahlberg, and more. This movie is heavily morally based, and is about a sixteen year old boy who is kidnapped and held for ransom until the boys wealthy grandfather is willing to pay the price. What I really liked about this movie is how it was able to frame things just as they were, without swaying too hard in one direction or another. The performances of some of these actors were their best yet, which really helped the movie stand out and seem realistic. I would rate this movie 4.5/5 stars and recommend it to anyone who needs to learn the value of money. @The_Reviewer of the Hamilton Public Library Teen Review Board

Plummer was wonderful but even more so given the crazy circumstances of production. The film overall is fairly good but not amazingly so. Fascinating story well told.

The acting was wonderful, as were thesets and direction. I did not feel the characters were well introduced. The book is much better.

There are many outstanding quotes from J. Paul Getty.. too bad the film was unable to write a few of them in the script. These from the movie is just okay in comparison:

You make deals. You buy people.
-That's right. Whether it's an oil well in the desert or a human life, it's all the same. We have to show we are willing to walk away.
I can't walk away. You can walk away, because you have nothing else

All I know about oil is regular or premium.

My grandpa was the one who brought the oil out of the Saudi desert. Everybody knew it was there. They just thought it couldnt be done. But Grandpa found a way. He made a deal with the Bedouin tribes. But there was so much oil, there was no ship big enough to carry it all. So, my grandfather invented one. He called it the supertanker.
