Twenty years ago, Dr. Cathy Ryan restored the eyesight of a young Bosnian girl who had been injured during an attack in the Balkan War. Today, her son, Jack Ryan Jr. has decided to surprise his mother by tracking down the young lady. What he finds shocks them both. The helpless child has grown into a remarkable woman. Aida Curic is a self-possessed beauty who runs a refugee agency that helps the children of her native Bosnia. Jack finds himself drawn to her, but before he can act on his feelings she's snatched off the streets of Sarajevo by kidnappers. In Jack's desperate search for Aida, he finds himself opposed by everyone from Serbian mobsters to Croatian paramilitary units. The Balkan War may have ended two decades ago, but the region still seethes with ethnic animosities. The deeper Jack plunges into this world the more he faces a disturbing truth, the scars of war fester long after the surface has healed.

This is easily the weakest entry in the Jack Ryan/Jack Ryan Jr. series. This particular writer seems to think Jack Ryan Jr is some kind of super agent/sex fiend who can't keep his mind on his work 'cause he's always checking out the women to see which one he can bed. How he's managed to stay alive when his mind is obviously on anything but the job he's been given is beyond me. I sure hope that Mark Greaney or one of the other more competent writers co-writing this series take over and this author gets assigned to less demanding tasks.

This was just ok for me. In fact, I would venture to call it Clancy light. There were quite a few glaring inconsistencies throughout and Ryan Jr. does far too many unprofessional things that an individual with his training would never do. This book's Jr's forte is hand to hand fighting, and it is there where he shines.
The earnest attempt by the author to clarify Balkan politics and explain the complexities of Balkan history is well done, as well as his presentation of state of the art techno weaponry and targeting capabilities, but that doesn't make up for the holes in the storyline or the predictability of both plot and outcome.

This is a departure from the usual theme & therefore was quite enjoyable.

LINE OF SIGHT is another good read from Mike Maden continuing the Jack Ryan Jr. series. Lots of action and Jack even tries for another meaningful relationship in the midst of it - no spoilers from me on how that works out. The setting brings into focus the complicated history and relationships of the Balkans - especially with Croatia, Serbia, and Bosnia as well as the cultural and economic issues they face separately and together. Great backdrop for the book. A tad too much travelogue as Jack sightsees his way around the region. Fun read. Enjoy!

Very enjoyable read. More interesting than the Bill Clinton/James Patterson work. A lot of twists with this one. Ready for the next one.

Good book written by Mike Madden a Jack Ryan thriller.

Madden does a good job of integrating Balkan History and Religion into president day possibilities. A good and fast read. Love the last seventy five pages.
