Florence Lovelady's career was made when she convicted coffin-maker Larry Grassbrook of a series of child murders 30 years ago in a small village in Lancashire. Like something out of a nightmare, the victims were buried alive. Florence was able to solve the mystery and get a confession out of Larry before more children were murdered. But now, decades later, he's dead, and events from the past start to repeat themselves. Is someone copying the original murders? Or did she get it wrong all those years ago? When her own son goes missing under similar circumstances, the case not only gets reopened... it gets personal.

I am always amazed that there aren't hundreds of people lined up waiting for the new Sharon Bolton book to arrive. In my opinion, she is the hands down best thriller writer today.
Her books always include flawed but eccentric and interesting characters who you would like to meet in real life. The settings are always moody and provide a perfect backdrop to the story.

I thought "The Craftsman" was reminiscent of the Lacey Flint books, with a strong heroine who has to fight to be accepted amongst her peers. The story was enthralling and there were, as always, enough twists , turns, and surprises to keep me reading until the wee hours.
A five star rating for sure, though I don't agree with the reader who thought this book surpassed "Little Black Lies". That book will remain at the top with my all-time favourites!

Sharon Bolton just keeps getting better, which is hard to do since she reached close to perfection with " Little Black Lies." I ordered an early copy of The Craftsman from London because of the early buzz. It truly lived up to the reviews. Don't miss this.
