Young Nicolas is VERY smart and an orphan. But he has one small problem- narcolepsy. He can't seem to make friends and he gets bullied all the time. So when he meets a boy who seems to like him, and finds a mystery that could change his life- he jumps right in.

Add a CommentI was intrigued to learn how the mysterious Mr. Benedict got his start--as an orphan of extraordinary (and overlooked) ability. Although I guessed a small segment of the "treasure" search early on, I was again pleased to find enough twists and turns to keep me guessing about other plot points, particularly Violet and John's resolution. I would be thrilled to see the author come back to Nicholas Benedict's life a few years into the future for a second installment!
This book has a great plot, but personally, I think it drags on a little too long.
I absolutely loved this book, even better than I liked the series. The audiobook reader is great, he does the voices so well. I would recommend this book to kids, teens, and adults alike. Fantastic wit and charm permeates the writing, and the author says just enough to make you stay awake all night wanting to see what happens next. Happy reading!
The origins of Nicholas Benedict reveal themselves in this exciting prequel. I have to admit, I wasn't very eager to read this because I thought it was going to be boing, but wow was I wrong! From the first page I was picked up on a riveting ride and didn't get off until I finished the final chapter. The only reason I docked off half a star from my rating was because I found the discovery of the treasure to be a bit anticlimactic. However, this is still a must-read for any fan, and I highly recommend this book. My favourite character is John Cole, definitely.
This book is witty and fun! I could not put it down!
I loved reading about Nicolas as a kid. I think that it is funny how he is like Renie and Sticky! 😀
This book is great! It is a very exciting adventure story!
It is interesting to see how young Nicholas gets himself out of trouble and gets help from unexpected places.I highly recommend it.
I really enjoyed this book. It was very well written and it's really cool to go back to Nicholas Benedict as a 9-year-old.It's hooking and interesting, though I think I liked the series a little bit more.
I would recommend it for ages 8 and above.
After reading the series, it was really cool to go back and see how it all began.
This book gives you some background information from where Mr.Benedict came from. The ending is more exiting then the beginning.
I've read it this year.Never gets old.Always new!
