In 1953, the ascent of Everest remained the last of Earth's great challenges. Standing at over 29,000ft, the world's highest mountain posed a fearsome challenge and had already claimed thirteen lives in previous expeditions. When Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay finally achieved the impossible and became the first men to stand atop Everest, it was an event that stunned the world and defined an era.

Exceptional. A very thorough and well thought out documentary using as much live-action climbing and video-taking as possible.

A must-see movie as the lessons learned from this expedition, fascinating as they are, provide even deeper meaning in one's own life. For example, guts may bring glory but also real risks abide. Accepting those risks sounds far easier than the reality. Summiting on Everest became the time's equivalent of landing on the moon. This account will stay with you a lifetime.

Fascinating for anyone with an interest in Hillary and Norgay's historic climb up Everest. The dramatic enactment is as close as you can get to being an eye witness.

I've been fascinated by Mt. Everest ever since I read Krakauer's Into Thin Air. This film is interesting because it reviews what it was like for Hilary and Norgay and the team behind them to make the climb. Today, there is almost an escalator up the mountain for adventurers to ride. The first to reach the summit had to meet challenges without modern technology and pioneer a dangerous route. Beautiful vistas from the summit.
