City of Ghosts
Book - 2018
Ever since her near-fatal drowning, Cassidy has been able to pull back the "Veil" that separates the living from the dead and see ghosts, not that she wants to, and she was really looking forward to a ghost-free summer at the beach; however her parents are going to start filming a TV series about the world's most haunted places, starting with Edinburgh with its graveyards, castles, and restless phantoms--and Cass and her personal ghost companion, Jacob, are about to find out that a city of old ghosts can be a very dangerous place indeed.

Add a CommentThis was an uplifting read about a young girl going through trouble with home life and ghosts. She gives herself the power to overcome these troubles with a surprising set of skills. A few scary moments, but an overall positive message and feel to the book.
Ever since Cassidy almost drowned she’s been able to lift the veil between the dead and the living. So when her parents announce they’ve been offered a job that requires them to move to Edinburgh, Scotland (one of the most ghost filled places in the world) Cass has mixed feelings. After arriving there she soon learns that everything isn’t as simple as she’d thought, or rather, hoped. Strange happenings, unfriendly dead, and someone who can also see the dead. Armed with a vintage camera, her best friend (and ghost) Jacob, and a quirky personality that just makes you laugh as she faces the dangers of her new life. Victoria Schwab is a genius. I have no other way of putting it. Her books are truly spellbinding and I can’t get enough of her monsters. This is one of my favourite works by her and I will be sure to read it again on those late October nights. This is definitely a book I recommend to all. Whether you’re living or dead. - 5/5 stars, SAPL Read It & Review Contributor
I'm all for a great ghost story that gives me chills. This middle grade did not disappoint! I was happily scared.
Cassidy almost drowns and can see ghosts after she was rescued by a ghost named Jacob. The two of them go with her parents to Scotland to films a ghost hunter show and Cassidy finds out that some ghosts can be very dangerous. Cassidy and Jacob have to fight to save herself and also rid the country of a ghost that should not be there.

This was my first Victoria Schwab book and definitely not my last. If you love haunted cemetery books, you'll devour this in one day. This is the perfect ghost story to read as the weather turns chilly and the nights get longer. I can't wait for the next in the series.
A creepy ghost story that's sure to be a hit with fans of Mary Downing Hahn!
Equal parts spooky, atmospheric ghost story and love letter to Edinburgh and Harry Potter.
I enjoy all her books, and this combines my love of those and YA novels. Excited for the next book!
