A fast paced novel, nothing more to add. Fine for a quick read.

The mood throughout the book is definitely on the dark side. I will say that the story is slow to build up and takes a bit to get going, but worth the wait. I personally didn't find it as gruesome and horrific as it claims to be, but I may very well be jaded.
Crouch's characters will cross paths with J.A. Konrath's Jack Daniels if you are reading that series too.

The secondary title is right on the mark: this is definitely a novel of terror. It's fast-paced, well-written, and takes some very dark turns. I'm definitely looking forward to reading the sequel (Locked doors).

I started this series at the urging of a patron, who thought I might enjoy Crouch as much as I do his good friend J.A. Konrath. Crouch is just as twisted as Konrath, without losing sight of the plot as some of Konrath’s later novels seem to do. Having said that, I do not think I will be reading the next in the series. Just didn’t do it for me.
