A movie was made of the title story of this collection, which (collection) I found a bit uneven. In fact, I tried but did not persist with the title story, whose basic premise I found a bit laboured--yet I since discovered it turned out to be nothing of the kind. In fact, French filmmakers seized on it and made an excellent flick out of it starring none other than Marion Cotillard. Don't miss that very affecting, extremely well-made flick. Other stories in this did pack a real punch. Pun intended: CD is clearly familiar with the world of boxing, and is a craftsman of impressive skills. (I'll be borrowing this again, I admit, to give Rust and Bone a second try.)
