Rapper DJay, who dreams of becoming the next big rap superstar, works all the angles to get his first record made. He even has the help from assorted people in his Memphis 'hood. When he hears that rap superstar Skinny Black is heading to his area, DJay decides to throw together a supreme hustle to grab Skinny's attention.
DJay, a very smalltime streetwise Memphis hustler and pimp, lives a dead-end life at the fringes of society. Though DJay has always had a way with words, that gift has long been misused--employed to keep his 'girls' producing. A chance encounter with Key, a sound engineer, spurs DJay to find a voice and realize his long-buried dreams. Chasing his musical dream transforms DJay, but opening the door to success demands one last hustle--if he's ever going to flow.
MPAA rating: Rated R; for sex and drug content, pervasive language and some violence.

Unless you like black urban life filled with foul language, rap, drugs, and violence, you probably won't care for this one.

How could they not call this movie "Rappin' Pimp"? Once you get past the boys' club mentality and the naive sexism, this movie is still pretty silly and it takes itself way too seriously. And the music isn't even that good. Featuring the hit jam "It's Hard out here for a Pimp." Boo hoo for the pimps. I guess that's keeping it real.
PS-Contrary to another review, this isn't really a "shooem up bangem up movie" (sic).

"I think that it would intrigue contemptous emotion in people who live such a life!"

This wasn't the worst movie I've ever seen, it is far from being good. I fast forwarded a lot but not all the way.
Just another shootem up bangem up move. Very predictable.

This is one of those movies I picked up on a whim thinking it might be decent, and I was shocked at just how good it ended up being. This movie is well scripted, and all the acting is quite impressive. I would recommend this to fans of urban dramas like Boys In The Hood.

It took me a while to get into this film and it did seem to be full of cliches, but the ending makes it justified.

Key: There are two types of people: those that talk the talk and those that walk the walk. People who walk the walk sometimes talk the talk but most times they don't talk at all, 'cause they walkin'. Now, people who talk the talk, when it comes time for them to walk the walk, you know what they do? They talk people like me into walkin' for them.
