I like the HeadFirst learning series as an introduction to various computer programming languages. This is a decent introduction to HTML and CSS however please note that this book is about 10 years old and the web has developed rapidly during that time. It makes some future predictions that did not happen. It also does not cover HTML5 or Javascript but before you get into that, you need the basics of HTML. Also this is a good learning book but would not be as good as a reference book.
