The first of the Father Tim novels by the bestselling author of  At Home in Mitford,   Somebody Safe with Somebody Good , and other books in the Mitford Series

Readers of the nine bestselling Mitford novels have been captivated by Jan Karon's gift for illuminating the struggles that creep into everyday lives "along with a vividly imagined world" ( People ). Millions have relished the story of the bookish and big-hearted Episcopal priest and the fullness of his seemingly ordinary life. Now, in the first novels of a new series, Jan Karon enchants us with the story of the newly retired priest's spur-of-the-moment adventure. For the first time in decades, Father Tim returns to his birthplace, Holly Springs, Mississippi, in response to a mysterious, unsigned note saying simply: " Come home ." A story of long-buried secrets, forgiveness, and the wonder of discovering new people, places, and depth of feeling, Home to Holly Springs will enthrall new readers and longtime fans alike.

The place where you grew up has a stranglehold on you even if you have been away 38 years. Fr. Tim learns several truths about his father and spends time under his childhood roof after befriending the men who are rehabbing the place. Barbecue, Memphis, cemeteries and Elvis lore are all visited in this book.
This book is the first in the Fr. Tim series, according to my book jacket, but I appreciated having already read “At Home in Mitford,” which has the back story of how he met his wife, adopted a son and acquired the dog. The Mitford book is more humorous with the dog and Dooley having more prominent parts.
“Home to Holly Springs” seems more preachy than “At Home in Mitford.”

Excellent read! I'll be looking for the next one in the series.

Loved it. This book is very much like the Mitford Series: interesting characters and wonderful writing style of Jan Karon!

The book was okay – but not one of my favorites.

Many of the old Mitford characters are brought back. A visit to the past with lots of coincidences, heart warming characters and healing.

This is the BEST of Jan Karon! I bet you can't get through Chapter 17 without a Kleenex...and that's only the first one you will need! This is truly an outstanding book and one I have already recommended to my friends and will give as gifts for sure!
