A Modoc chief, Kientpoos, murders a Civil War hero during negotiations, and triggers a U.S. Army offensive against the Modocs. Besieged in Lava Beds near Tule Lake, the Modocs fight for seven months before being defeated when Modoc defectors help turn the tide against the Indians.
