Dan Burns is a local newspaper advice columnist. He has three daughters and is a widower. He brings the family to his parent's house for a family gathering. When Dan goes to a local bookstore, he meets Marie. When he gets home, he finds out that Marie is actually dating his brother Mitch. Dan's mother Nana announces that she met an old acquaintance of Dan's, Ruthie Draper and that she has set up a date between Dan and Ruthie. Dan refuses to go. Mitch suggests that they could make it a double date and Dan agrees. Ruthie turns out to be very hot, but Dan isn't really interested in her. When Marie indicates that Ruthie is not right for him, Dan feigns interest and starts dancing with Ruthie. Marie gets jealous and joins the floor with Mitch, leading to an upstaging contest between Dan and Marie.

Real Life? it is entertaining, but Dan's not all that likable - or real-like...and WHO has a family like that?

I loved this movie! Not as 'dramatic' as advertised and way better than "Finding A Friend At The End of the World" or whatever that was called. I would buy this and watch it again no problem. It's light and funny romantic comedy. Steve Carrell is good, Juliette Binoche (hope I got her name right) is good, the young actresses are good, and future The Office alum Amy Smart is in this. Can't go wrong!

An above average quirky romantic comedy. Not really so much in the way of "Real Life", but still a nice change of pace from the usual rom-com swill. Good performances and decent dialogue all around in this feelgood flick.

A beautiful, heart warming and funny film. Steve Carnell is at his best. If you liked Stupid, Crazy Love, you'll enjoy this movie.

Solid movie, keeps you entertained all the way through with a great balance of humour, romance, human struggle, and drama. I recommend it.

This is by no means a must see movie but it does have some really good parts. If you are a fan of Steve Carell's quirky off beat humor you will probably love this movie. I would recommend this to any fan of off the wall comedies.

I couldn't sustain interest beyond the set-up of this movie: about 20'
