This book devastated me. I was enjoying the beautiful images and sweet stories when the book took a very unexpected turn. I started crying and it took me a minute to continue. My 7 year-old daughter didn't understand why and when we finally finished the book, I went back through it page by page to explain why it made me cry. You have been warned, but it won't do any good. You will cry, too.

This is a beautiful picture book about loss and hope. It is great for those elementary aged children who are dealing with grief.

Great story , very touching .About love and loss and that there is always hope.
More for the older child . Very poignant and well done .

Lovely story but miscategorized as a children's book. Story is wonderful and poignant but appropriate for older children or better, for adults.

The Heart and the Bottle has a place in my heart. I love any and every thing Oliver Jeffers has ever illustrated. But this book is especially poignant.
Sit in a comfy chair, read it, and your chair wont' be so empty anymore.

A little too deep and then too sad (once explained) to the preschooler. Beautiful story for me as an adult though.
