Vince Rizzo is a lifelong resident of the tiny, tradition-steeped Bronx enclave of City Island. A family man who makes his living as a corrections officer, Vince longs to become an actor. Vince would rather let his wife believe his weekly poker games are a cover for an affair than admit he is secretly taking acting classes in Manhattan. When Vince is asked to reveal his biggest secret in class, he inadvertently sets off a chaotic chain of events that turns his mundane suburban life upside down.

These characters are so dysfunctional it's hard to hang in there with them, but doing so pays off with a good feeling in the end.

Writer/director Raymond de Felitta doesn't quite hit the small town quirkiness of Wes Anderson but he does manage to deliver a warmhearted tale about adults growing up, children growing wiser, and dreams being realized. Cute.

Not really a comedy as such, more of a slice-of-life of a loud, non-communicating middle-class suburban New York Italian family. Nice performance by Andy Garcia tho'.

ANOTHER GREAT MOVIE ACTED AND PRODUCED BY ANDY GARCIA..
GLAD I HEARD ABOUT IT DURING PREVIEWS OF ANOTHER MOVIE.
FAT CHICKS ADDED HUMOR TO THE MOVIE.

Was in the area during filming, didn't know what to expect, rather enjoyed it, wondering why it never got more exposure. Being from the Bronx I can tell you this film does not represent City Island and I found the accents somewhat forced but I'm no movie critic so just enjoy....

I really enjoyed this funny little gem of a drama...and wonder why no one seems to have heard of it. I especially appreciate the PG13 rating. This story of the complicated people and relationships in one small family is handled with teens in mind - whether walking through the room while mom is viewing it, stopping to say "hey, that's the guy from 'wallflower'", or getting drawn in by the story and staying to watch the film with mom (!!!!). Just enough sex & sass.

Before I saw this film, Juliana Margulies and Andy Garcia both disappointed me after being really impressed with some of their first major roles. After not seeing them for quite some time, I was really blown away with their acting abilities in this film. It took me 30 minutes to really believe that it was Margulies in this film and Garcia is now so much different than I saw him in the “Godfather.” Anyways, I think I liked this movie more than most people. I really like it and was moved by some of the more serious parts after enjoying all the comically misunderstood parts by the various characters.
