When the author, a Columbia professor, set out to solve America's food, water, and energy crises, he didn't just think big, he thought up. His stroke of genius, the vertical farm, has excited scientists, architects, and politicians around the globe. These multi-story intensely managed indoor farms, grown inside skyscrapers, are capable of producing traditional greenhouse crops, as well as pigs and fowl, year-round. They would provide solutions to many of the serious problems the world is facing.

Too high-level. Too bad, the subject is really interesting, and the ideas expressed worth exploring further. The book only gathers the early thinking on vertical farms, with no details or actual plan/solutions. It does not even give a lot of details of strengths and challenges for hydroponics and aeroponics cultures.

It was a very interesting read to me. Written in a dreamy and futuristic voice, this book provides some interesting food for thought. The main thing for me was trying not to take everything written in this book literally, rather keep an open mind and dream a little. Book proposes a very brave idea, which is a bit unrealistic at present, but might be very well implemented in 20-30 years, when humanity would really face the issue of empty shelves at stores and would need to reinvent its ways for food production. Keep an open mind while reading it and enjoy ;) BTW the author is a contributor to the teriffic science audio podcast - twiv and twip!
