This set of CDs is actually first half of the 'Chinese Cantonese I by Pimsleur'. This one has 10 vocal chapters, the other has 30 plus 7 short vocal recordings providing some observations about the Cantonese language. These 5 CDs has some wrong labeled chapters numbers and names (i.e. Russian instead of Cantonese).
The phonetic aspect of it, its notation, is USELESS. This book obviously intended for English audiences, it should use English phonemes or Spanish phonemes (has more accents in its alphabets) instead of the strange and almost impossible to verbalize using the common Latin based or Germanic based language. it's terrible!
It provides good notices about some strange Cantonese grammar (word order) as compared to other dialects (Chinese and other languages).
Overall it's not bad but quite disorganized! You could still learn some basic and useful phrases from it.
I am finding this CD set hard to follow. I am a total beginner and I it is hard to learn entire sentences and phrases if I don't know the basic grammatical rules (very different sentence structure than English/French). I can't hear the difference in the tones very well either and they don't often compare them.
